French retailer Intermarché has decided to leave the Romanian market and focus on its operations in the Balkans.

The company confirmed this morning (18 September) it would quit Romania, where it has nine stores and “refocus” its business on Bosnia and Serbia. It refused to be drawn on why it had opted to leave Romania.

Intermarché has 24 outlets in Bosnia, eight in Serbia and one in Kosovo. It opened its latest store in Serbia last month and expects to open another in Belgrade by the end of the year.
