US food maker Pinnacle Foods Group is to end production at another of its factories, with a plant producing vegetables under the Birds Eye brand set for closure.

The company, which in December announced it would close its Nalley’s chili production site in Washington state, is to end production at a Birds Eye facility in Fulton, New York.

The company, which acquired US frozen food maker Birds Eye Foods in 2009, said operations at the Fulton site would be “consolidated” into facilities in Darien in Wisconsin and Waseca in Minnesota.

The moves will “locate all vegetable processing closer to the crop growing region”, Pinnacle said.

“The decision to close the Fulton, N.Y. facility was made after a thorough analysis of all options. The analysis determined this as the most efficient, sustainable way to operate,” added Daryl Pike, senior vice president of operations for Pinnacle’s Birds Eye frozen division.

A spokesperson for Pinnacle said around 350 staff are employed at the facility, which will close by the end of the year.

The company said it would work with local agencies to assist the affected staff and “provide professional career support services”. The company said that “qualified” employees will have the chance to apply for open positions at other Pinnacle sites.

Capacity at the sites in Darien and Waseca will be increased and the facilities “upgraded”, which will create new jobs in the regions, Pinnacle said.
