Tesco plans to start selling food online in the Czech Republic, the UK retail giant has confirmed.
The retailer will start offering fresh and non-perishable goods in Prague but could expand the service across the country, a spokesperson said.
“Once we receive a feedback from our customers, we plan to take this service elsewhere as well,” the spokesperson told just-food.
Tesco is launching the concept because surveys indicate that Czechs are interested in buying food online. “It is a logical step which we have long planned as part of expanding our retail network,” the spokesperson explained.
Local reports, meanwhile, suggest that Tesco could face competition from German retailer Makro which is said to be ready to start online sales this summer.
