UK retailer Marks and Spencer has poached Morrisons’ executive Chris Taylor to head its Simply Food convenience stores.

Taylor will head M&S’s Simply Food, franchise and hospitality operations next month. He replaces Neil Hyslop, who is moving to the newly-created role of director of space planning and development.

The announcement of Taylor’s appointment comes a little more than a year after M&S chief executive Marc Bolland formerly joined the business from Morrisons.

An M&S spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to confirm that Christopher Taylor is joining Marks & Spencer as director of Simply Food, franchise and hospitality. Christopher joins us on 3 May and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to the team.”

The announcement comes in the wake of a series of high-profile appointments for M&S, as the retailer looks to update its UK operations and drive international expansion.

The retailer appointed former Inditex Russia executive Jan Heere as international director and appointed former Tesco executive Laura Wade-Gery as head of its multi-channel e-commerce operations in February.
