US pork giant Smithfield Foods, which has faced accusations of animal cruelty, has launched a series of videos that provide a “behind-the-scenes look” at production at one of its subsidiaries.
Seven videos showing “pork production and sustainability practices” at Smithfield’s Murphy-Brown hog farms can be viewed on YouTube, SchoolTube and at www.murphybrownllc.com.
“These video tours give viewers a close look inside our hog farms and lets people see firsthand how we put our commitment to product quality, food safety and animal care into practice,” said Don Butler, director of government relations and public affairs for Murphy-Brown.
In December, after an undercover investigation, The Humane Society of the United States said there had been “inhumane treatment” of pigs at a farm in Virginia owned by a Smithfield subsidiary.
After an internal investigation, Smithfield fired three employees.
