Tesco has confirmed the make-up of a new board that will lead its domestic operations, headed up by UK chief executive Richard Brasher.

The creation of a specific board to run Tesco’s UK business forms part of a new-look management structure at the retail giant, which in March will see group CEO Sir Terry Leahy step down and be replaced by Philip Clarke, head of its international operations.

Brasher was appointed to the newly-created role of CEO of Tesco’s UK business when Leahy announced his departure in June last year.

In an internal announcement yesterday (6 January), Brasher welcomed eight new members to the UK board, which he said will create “a strong team to run the UK business”. The roles will be effective from March.

The appointments include Noel Robbins, previously development and strategy director for Tesco’s Asia business, as head of retail operations and logistics.

Per Bank, CEO of Tesco’s business in Hungary, will join the board as commercial director for food.

Carolyn Bradley, previously UK marketing director, has been appointed to the board as marketing director, while Kevin Grace, COO of Tesco Korea, will take up the role of property director.

UK finance director Mike Iddon will join the board as finance director, and Judith Nelson, international personnel director, will take the role of group personnel director.

“Together we have huge experience across all aspects of our business with a unique combination of both international and domestic expertise,” Brasher said. “I am very pleased we have created such a strong and diverse team. There is a wealth of general management and functional capability as well as strong international experience.”

While the board overseeing Tesco’s business in Ireland remains unchanged, Brasher has appointed Tony Keohane to the UK board in his role as CEO of the business across the Irish Sea.
