Vion Food Group has announced the appointment of Douwe Egberts Master Blenders chief Michiel Herkemij to the post of CEO.
The meat group, which is in the process of restructuring its operations to boost profitability, said Herkemij has “extensive international experience”, having lead “various companies through periods of transition”.
As CEO of coffee group Master Blenders, Herkemij managed the company’s move to an “independent company” after Sara Lee split in two. Before this, Herkemij headed up Heineken’s business in Mexico and Nigeria, as well as leading the Asia, Africa and Middle East operations of FrieslandCampina.
“Mr Herkemij will plot a new strategic course, continue to work on the new food structure and the quality of Vion operations and its products,” the group said.
Herkemij will join Vion in mid-January.
