Tesco’s UK convenience chain One Stop has seen its acquisition of a clutch of Spar franchise stores cleared by competition officials.
The Office of Fair Trading has approved One Stop’s move for 33 outlets owned by local Spar operator Alfred Jones. In July, the watchdog had said the deal had “resulted in the creation of a relevant merger situation” that could affect competition.

However, it confirmed yesterday the deal had been given the green light.
The deal means Tesco’s One Stop UK c-store chain numbers 682 stores across England. The acquired stores are in the north west of the country.
Alfred Jones is a Spar UK franchisee with 49 convenience stores and 18 forecourt sites located predominantly in the North West.
