Carrefour has confirmed that it is restructuring its French hypermarket operations in a fresh bid to rejuvenate its embattled domestic business.

A spokesperson for the retail giant told just-food today (13 February) that the group will divide its French hypermarket unit into three segments, each focusing on a different aspect of the group’s retail strategy.

“The purpose of the restructure is to implement fresh ways to improve the performance of Carrefour hypermarkets in France,” the spokesperson said.

These newly-formed units will be overseen by long-time Carrefour executives Patrice Lespagnol, Philippe Lartigue and  Frederic Duranton. Each executive will report directly to Noel Prioux, executive director of Carrefour France.

The company declined to reveal further details of its strategy for reinvigorating a format that has seen slumping sales and profits.
