The Mexican subsidiary of US retail behemoth Wal-Mart is to be investigated by local antitrust authorities over concerns over pricing practices.

According to the Mexico City paper Reforma, the Federal Competition Commission, or CFC, will investigate claims that Walmex, as Wal-Mart is known in Mexico, demands lower prices from its suppliers than they charge competitors of Wal-Mart.

The CFC will probe the company to see if there are sufficient grounds for a formal investigation into alleged monopolistic practices. The decision is expected to be announced this week.
