Emmi has acquired premium Italian speciality dessert maker Rachelli for an undisclosed sum.

The deal will allow Emmi to reinforce its position in the European market for Italian speciality desserts, strengthening its expertise in a niche category, the Swiss dairy group said today (1 July).

Rachelli has operations in “more than a dozen countries”, Emmi said. It produces ice cream, frozen desserts and chilled products, such as tiramassu.

The company emphasised there is a “great deal of crossover” between Rachelli and the firm’s A-27 business, which Emmi acquired in 2011. Emmi said it plans to “unlock synergies” and increase distribution power. However, Rachelli will continue to operate largely on a stand-alone basis.
