The Norfolk-based turkey giant is said to have been holding discussions with several potential new investors.

2 Sisters, however, which supplies own-label chilled foods and poultry, as well as brands like Fox’s biscuits, to UK retailers, said it would not comment on rumour or speculation.

Bernard Matthews would also not comment on whether it had received any bids, instead reiterated that it was exploring the possibility of an external cash injection into the company in a bid to boost growth.

All the options will only be evaluated once the process is completed,” the company said in a statement.
