McNeil Nutritionals has added to the range of Benecol yoghurts on sale in the UK.

The company, which holds the UK licence to Benecol, is expanding its portfolio with the launch of a fat-free yoghurt.

The product is the “first-ever fat-free cholesterol-lowering yoghurt”, McNeil said. They are available in strawberry, black cherry, rhubarb and peach flavours.

McNeil has also developed a layered Benecol yoghurt, made with a raspberry compote and topped with yoghurt.

Both products have an RRP of GBP2.39 (US$3.75) for a pack of four and are available from Tesco, Morrisons, Ocado and Waitrose. There are plans to widen the roll-out to other retailers later this year.

A spokesperson said: “Benecol yoghurts will be a key driver in growing the healthy yoghurts category.”

The launch will be supported with an integrated communications programme. In September the brand, owned by Finnish food group Raisio, was relaunched in the UK, with the introduction of new packaging and an expanded range.
