Supervalu Inc has moved Michael Moore, who joined the US retailer last year to help turn around the business, to the position of chief marketing officer.

Moore spent over two decades at Procter & Gamble before taking a role at Supervalu last year as business transformation officer.

However, this week Julie Dexter Berg told Supervalu she wanted to leave the retailer and return to the West Coast after two years in charge of its marketing.

“Michael has a terrific understanding of the food industry and the challenges we face as a grocery retailer in today’s environment,” Supervalu CEO and president Craig Herkert said yesterday (24 January).

Two weeks ago, Supervalu issued a profit warning for its current financial year amid more write-downs and poorer sales in its third quarter.
