An investigation in France has uncovered fraudulent practices on around 6,000 tonnes of poultry products for export markets.

The products, marketed by three Brittany-based firms, were bound for export and had a market value of EUR3m (US$3.9m).

The police investigation has yielded evidence on products over a number of years that related to the falsification of microbiological analyses and the tampering of samples in order to meet regulations in several countries, in particular Russia. A trial is scheduled to begin in September.

The prosecutor has not revealed the identity of the firms but disclosed they belong to the same group. just-food understands one of the companies is Trégunc-based Société de Fabrication de Viande. The firm, however, declined to comment.

Last year, SFV was fined for marketing types of offal that are prohibited.
