Lidl has announced plans to open 15 stores throughout the Bulgaria by the end of the year.

The German discounter has 50 stores in Bulgaria and aims to reach 65 by 2013. The first opening of the New Year was in the city of Ruse on Thursday (12 January).

The manager of Lidl Bulgaria, Milena Dragiyska-Dencheva, said that much of the company’s success was down to its partnerships with domestic suppliers. She said: “At Lidl we are confident in the quality of traditional Bulgarian cuisine and in the capacity of Bulgarian producers to deliver high quality products.”

The company, which launched in the country in November 2010, reported an increase in customers from 7% between December 2010 and December 2011. It currently employs 1,800 people.
