Canada-based frozen seafood manufacturer High Liner Foods is investing US$6.6m in the expansion of its manufacturing site south of the border in Virginia.

The group plans to modernise and extend the facility in Newport News to ramp up production in response to growing demand from the foodservice sector, High Liner indicated yesterday (21 May).

“As demand for our foodservice products continues to grow, this increased production capacity will allow High Liner to be an even better partner for our customers,” president and COO Keith Decker said. The move will create 57 new jobs.

High Liner acquired the Newport News facility as part of its acquisition of Icelandic Group’s US and Aisan business in late 2011.
