Exports of processed food and other agricultural goods from India are to increase by 20% in the current financial year, despite much of the country being hit by drought, according to the Indian Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority.

Chairman Anil Swarup said that processed foods, flowers and fruits including mango and grapes have been selling particularly well, with gherkin exports expected to rise 25%. There have been problems exporting groundnuts, guar gum, milk and milk products, however, said Swarup.
 
Last year’s Indian food exports were worth R101bn (US$2.16bn).
