UK pork group Cranswick has acquired pig breeder East Anglian Pigs Limited (EAP) for an undisclosed sum.

The deal, announced today (30 April), will strengthen Cranswick’s position in the premium, high-welfare pork sector and further shortens its pork supply chain.

Cranswick said EAP, which is a key supplier to the company’s operations in Norfolk, will continue as a separate operation with its own management team. EAP had gross assets of GBP11.8m (US$18.3m) as of 31 March.

EAP breeds, rears and finishes British pigs and is RSPCA Freedom Foods and Red Tractor accredited.

Cranswick said the acquisition demonstrates its “on-going commitment to, and greater control over, a robust and integrated supply chain with a clear focus on premium, British ingredients”.
