Danone has introduced a second infant formula brand to China, targeting soaring imported demand for imported products.

Aside from maternity stores, Danone has made Nutrilon available at Tmall, a business-to-consumer site run by China’s largest online shopping platform Taobao.

“We learned over 3m Chinese mothers are buying motherhood supplies each month at Tmall, which obviously is a great place to sell infant formulas,” said Bruno Chevot, general manager at Danone Baby Nutrilon Hong Kong, which handles Nutrilon sales in China.

He added Tmall will help Danone quickly reach consumers in remote areas with few maternity stores.

Manufactured in the Netherlands, Nutrilon is the second imported brand Danone has introduced to China. In 2011, it started selling New Zealand-made infant formula Karicare, also available at Tmall.
