French retail giant Carrefour has announced a restructuring of its domestic operations, which will see its hypermarket unit divided into four geographic areas.

To be adopted between now and May, the new structure will comprise four units: Ile-de-France, West, South East and North. Sylvain Ferry, Philippe Lartigue, Patrice Lespagnol and Pierre Bertholat will be responsible for each of the areas, respectively.

However, the French hypermarket operations will be headed up by Eric Bourgeois, director of PFT for Carrefour France.

Meanwhile, oversight of its supermarkets has been entrusted to Alain Rabec, formerly director of business development and structure for the format. Gérard Dorey retains control of the convenience and cash & carry formats.

Additionally, Carrefour has created three new departments: merchandise, supply chain & systems; banking, services & projects; and technical.

Earlier this month, Carrefour reported underlying annual profits that beat analyst forecasts, amid an improved performance at home. CEO Georges Plassat insisted the world’s second-largest retailer had to invest to build on the signs of improvement at the company and withstand competition.
