Member governments of the world food standards organisation Codex Alimentarius have been asked to comment on a number of new health guidelines on additives and contaminants by 30 September.

These include draft maximum levels for lead in fish, proposed maximum tin levels in canned food, draft maximum cadmium levels in rice, soy beans, mollusks and peanuts, and a draft code practice for the safe use of active chlorine in foodstuffs.

Comments are also being sought on a suggested maximum level for aflatoxins in almonds, hazelnuts and peanuts. These responses will be received and considered by the Codex committee on food additives and contaminants.
