ITC, the Indian FMCG giant, has confirmed it will enter the country's dairy sector with the launch of ghee, or clarified butter.
The product will be available in the market by the end of the month, Sanjiv Puri, president of of ITC's FMCG division, told reporters on the sidelines of a conference this week.

Speaking to just-food, an ITC official said the ghee will be available in north and west India and, after a few months, other regions will be covered.
ITC has set up a milk processing unit in Munger, in the north-eastern state of Bihar. Last year, ITC said it planned to open plants in six other states – Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.
"The company will also launch other dairy products including milk, butter, cheese and chocolates in the coming months," the official added.
Puri also said ITC has targeted investment of US$3.76bn in its foods division over the next few years.
