The plant makes chilled products, including layered salads and coleslaws, for UK retailers.

2 Sisters embarked on talks and insisted it had “fully explored all options” but said today (25 March) the plant was “no longer viable”.

Solway Foods has a second site in Manton Woods, which produces sandwiches. However, production from Corby will not move there. “No production is moving to other company sites,” a 2 Sisters spokesperson said. “Our customers are seeking other suppliers of salads.”

2 Sisters said it would look to “minimise” the number of compulsory redundancies through voluntary redundancies or redeployment elsewhere within the company. It said it would also look to help find jobs outside the business for affected staff.
