A Morrisons employee has been arrested for allegedly stealing payroll data that then appeared in the public domain, the UK grocer has confirmed.

According to the BBC, about 100,000 employee details were understood to have been stolen.

The company said at the time (13 March) the publication of the data seemed to be the result of an internal leak.

Morrisons stressed there has been “no loss of customer data” and “no colleague will be left financially disadvantaged” as a result of the breach. The company has brought in experts to advise colleagues and informed UK banks.

In a statement today (17 March) the supermarket said: “We can now confirm that an employee of the company was arrested this morning.”
