Mexican bakery giant Grupo Bimbo has launched bagels under the Thomas brand in Spain.

The bagel launch has been marketed as a breakfast occasion with Bimbo saying it allows toast lovers to "escape the daily routine" and vary their breakfasts.

Bimbo claims Thomas has a "great reputation in the American market". The company acquired the rights to the Thomas brand along with Oroweat, Entenmann's and Boboli when it purchased five plants as part of the acquisition of George Weston Ltd's western US baking business in 2002.
