Dole Food Co. has snapped up Chilean fruit producer TucFrut.
The US company said today (10 October) the deal, struck for an undisclosed sum, would give the business its own production of blueberries Dole said it already had a “strong position” in a category it described as having seen “tremendous growth” in consumption.

TucFrut also produces apples and kiwifruit on farms spread on more than 660 hectares, although the business has property of more than 1,000 hectares.
“A large portion of the farm is yet to be planted and we intend to plant varieties that will satisfy our customers’ needs in the years to come,” Francisco Chacon, president of Dole’s diversified fruit operations, said. “The TucFrut fruit farms acquisition is the most visible part of our growth in Chile this year.”
Dole,meanwhile, said it has also recently added three grape farms totaling over 600 hectares to its long-term grape suppliers.
