Swiss meat firm Bell Group has acquired local foodservice supplier Geiser.?

Geiser generates annual sales of around CHF45m (US$45.9m) and employs 120 people. The company operates a production plant in Schlieren, where it produces meat and charcuterie items. Bell said that there would be no job losses as a result of the deal. Geiser will be managed as an independent business under the Bell umbrella and current management will continue to oversee operations.

Bell said that the acquisition “strengthens” its position in the Swiss foodservice segment while Geiser said becoming part of a larger organisation “safeguards” its position in “a very competitive market”.

Bell said: “As part of its investment planning in Switzerland, Bell is strengthening its focus on customer groups. While the bigger production sites focus on rational and efficient large-scale production, the smaller and more flexible plants should concentrate on regional and customer-specific product ranges.”

The agreement is expected to close on 1 October. Financial details were not disclosed.

The deal is Bell’s third acquisition of 2016. Last month, the company announced a deal to buy Swiss charcuterie supplier Cher-Mignon. In February, Bell announced a move to expand in the produce sector through the acquisition of Swiss convenience salad maker Eisberg Group.
