Big Sister developed from a contract to supply Australian troops in India at the end of the Second World War.

Simplot and Fowlers Vacola said in a joint statement that the move will “bring more focus to the brand”, and provide “increased opportunities”. Fowlers Vacola said the icon brand would complement its George & Simpson line of fruit cakes and puddings.

The deal, which was completed for an undisclosed sum, includes the Big Sister plant at Ermington, in West Sydney, which employs about 100 people.
