The acquisition of Brazilian supermarket chain G. Barbosa by Dutch retailer Ahold is being investigated by Brazilian competition authorities.
The authorities are concerned that the US$124m deal could prompt a hike in prices because, in some areas, the group would enjoy market share as high as 92%.
Ahold has put its restructuring plans for Barbosa on hold pending the outcome of the investigation.
Meanwhile Julius Baer said today [Friday] that it had raised its recommendation on Ahold to “buy” from “hold” and lowered its cash earnings per share estimates.
