Japanese supermarket operators Ito-Yokado and Daiei have said vowed not to raise their beef prices even if the Japanese government raises tariff on beef imports to protect domestic produce.

Aeon is also considering maintaining prices of beef imported from its Australian farm operations, reported Jiji Press.
Japan announced last week that it plans to raise tariffs on imported chilled beef to 50% from the current 38.5%, effective 1 August.
Ito-Yokado and Daiei said they would cut costs by obtaining beef directly from farmers rather than via trading houses.
