Netherlands-based seafood processor Parlevliet & Van der Plas has scooped up a shareholding in Dutch peer Platvis Holland.

Platvis, which started out in 1983 filleting plaice, has developed into a producer of all flatfish species. In recent years, Platvis has added the production of flavoured and crumbed frozen fish, supplying products to retailers and restaurant chains in Europe.

Announcing the deal, Platvis said: “In order to be able to give more depth to its product portfolio, to start new activities and to serve an even larger market, it proved necessary to join a larger party in order to be able to achieve this goal. This picture fits in perfectly with the strong consolidation currently taking place in the European seafood market.”

The size of the stake Parlevliet & Van der Plas has not been disclosed, nor how much was paid for the shares.

Meanwhile, Parlevliet & Van der Plas and Platvis have together taken over Belgium-based processor Nordpesca Europe. “We believe that the addition of Nordpesca will further improve and increase our position in the fresh market in Europe,” Platvis said.
