Director of the Organic Crop Institute Somkid Disathaporn said that demand for organic products was on the increase, with consumption of organic food rising annually by 15%.
The Agriculture Department wants to make sure that Thai farmers do not miss out on the growing market. Demand in the US, Germany and Japan is particularly high, while demand in neighbouring Singapore is also growing. Disathaporn stated that organic jasmine rice was in such high demand that farmers were unable to produce sufficient amounts, reported OANA.
