US grocery chain Shaw’s Supermarkets is planning to acquire control of 18 former Ames Department Store leases in New England.

Shaw’s is reported to have an agreement to pay US$48.5m for leasing rights to 16 stores plus two stores still owned by Ames, subject to bankruptcy court approval and higher bids.
Shaw’s plans to operate the sites as grocery stores, reported AP Newswires.
