The increase is due to the country regaining permission to export beef to the EU, which had banned imports of Argentinean beef last year after a foot-and-mouth outbreak in Argentina.

Argentina was again allowed to export to the EU after it brought the outbreak under control by vaccinating the majority of its 54 million cattle against foot-and-mouth disease. No new cases have been reported for nine months.

Between January and September this year, 16.6% of Argentinean beef exports went to Germany, 14.4% to the UK and 10.1% to the US, reported Reuters.

Argentina is South America’s second-biggest beef producer after Brazil.
