The District Court in Brisbane has dropped charges over the 1997 extortion attempt on Australia biscuit producer Arnott’s, leaving a 69-year-old woman to walk free.

The New South Wales pensioner, Joy Ellen Thomas, had pleaded not guilty to four counts of extortion, brought after a number of high profile people received packages of poisoned Arnotts biscuits in 1997.

According to ABC News, crown prosecutor Paul Rutledge explained to the court that the case could not proceed because there was not enough DNA evidence linking Thomas to the crime.
