US retail titan Wal-Mart has said it continues to expect a 1-3% increase in December same-stores sales in the US as sales of general merchandise and winter products picked up last week.
Wal-Mart said customer traffic drove sales in the week to last Friday, with continued strength in food sales and improved general merchandise sales. The company said sales were strongest in the southeast US, reported Reuters.
Wal-Mart’s December sales period is from 27 November to 31 December.
