Scientists at the University of Georgia have produced the first calf cloned from cells of a slaughtered cow in the USA.

The genetic material used to clone the calf was taken from the kidney region of her mother two days after she was killed.

The Georgia researchers say they hope their efforts will in time allow beef producers to take the best cows from their herd, take cells and use it to stock their herds – improving the chance of offering consumers top quality beef.
