Asia-Pacific saw the fastest growth in the number of cybersecurity roles advertised by food manufacturers in the three months ending November, according to GlobalData analysis.

The number of positions on offer in Asia-Pacific made up 23.5% of cybersecurity jobs – up from 18.5% in the same quarter last year. That was followed by South & Central America, which saw a 4.1 year-on-year percentage point increase.

The figures are compiled by GlobalData, which tracks the number of new job postings from key companies in various sectors over time. Using textual analysis, the job ads are then classified thematically. GlobalData's thematic approach to sector activity seeks to group key business information by topic, including cybersecurity, to see which companies are best placed to weather the disruptions coming to their industries.

By tracking them across job advertisements, GlobalData says it can see which companies are leading the way on specific issues and which are dragging their heels – and importantly where the market is expanding and contracting.

Which countries are seeing most growth for cybersecurity job ads in the food industry?

The fastest growing country was Costa Rica, which accounted for 4.1% of job adverts related to cybersecurity in the three months ending November 2021, up from zero a year earlier.

That was followed by Vietnam (up 3.7 percentage points), the UK (up two), and India (up 1.9).

The top country is the United States which accounted for 18% of advertised positions in the food industry in the three months ending November.

Eight per cent of food industry cybersecurity roles were advertised in the Indian city of Bengaluru in the three months ending November. That was matched by San Jose in Costa Rica. Two Indian cities followed – Mumbai with 3.7% and Hyderabad with 2.9%.

Meanwhile, analysis by GlobalData published last week indicated food manufacturers are citing cybersecurity in their public filings more often. Mentions of cybersecurity were 101% higher in the third quarter of 2021 than the corresponding period a year earlier, GlobalData said.

Of the 50 biggest employers among food manufacturers, Saudi Arabia-based Almarai was the company that referred to cybersecurity the most between October 2020 and September 2021.
