Meiji Milk Prod.: Meiji Probio Yogurt LG21. The new strain of lactic acid bacteria in this yogurt is effective against the microorganism Helicobacter pylori associated with gastric ulcers and gastric cancer. Around half the population in Japan is infected with Helicobacter pylori. Unlike the conventional use of antibiotics, this yogurt has no side effects and is completely safe. Consumption of this yogurt in the early stages of infection can prevent growth of the pathogen. FOSHU approval application is in progress. The lactic acid bacteria culture used includes the regular yogurt bacteria Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus plus the new culture Lactobacillus gasseri type OLL2716 (LG21). This is a low-sugar plain yogurt.
