The top five companies accounted for 9% of patenting activity

Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Nestle filed the most plant-based diets patents within the consumer industry in Q3 2023. The company filed 34 plant-based diets-related patents in the quarter, compared with 32 in the previous quarter. It was followed by Amano Enzyme with 8 plant-based diets patent filings, Ingredion (6 filings), and Northeast Agricultural University (6 filings) in Q3 2023.

Patenting activity was driven by China with a 42% share of total patent filings

The largest share of plant-based diets related patent filings in the consumer industry in Q3 2023 was in China with 42%, followed by South Korea (16%) and the US (10%). The share represented by China was 9% higher than the 33% share it accounted for in Q2 2023.
