The global food industry noticed a 10.9% drop in IT hiring activity in July 2022 over the previous month, led by Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s.’s 14.05% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.

The food industry’s overall hiring activity increased 1.75% when compared with June 2022.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.34% share of the global food industry’s hiring activity in July 2022, down 0.12% over the last three-month average share.

According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2022 were 8.16% lower when compared with the previous month.

The decrease was a result of 14.67% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food IT hiring activity

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 37.07% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food hiring activity in July 2022, an 18.42% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 23.17% in July 2022, down 11.93% over the previous month.

The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 18.24% share in July 2022, a decline of 28.65% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 15.84% share in July 2022 and a drop of 51.38% over June 2022.

Top five food companies by recruitment activity in July 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 18.26% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food industry during July 2022 over June 2022.

Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. posted 94 IT jobs in July 2022 and registered a drop of 19.66% over the previous month, followed by HelloFresh with 68 jobs and a 74.36% growth. Nestle with 46 IT jobs and Bunge with 43 jobs, recorded a 64.62% decline and a 19.44% rise, respectively, while Charoen Pokphand Foods Public recorded a 17.65% rise with 40 job postings during July 2022.

Regional composition of IT hiring in food industry

North America emerged as the leading region in the global food IT hiring activity in July 2022 with a 35.28% share, which marked a 42.86% drop over the previous month.

Europe stood next with 31.99%, registering a 23.84% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 24.51% share and a 15.9% drop over June 2022.

In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 5.68% and a month-on-month rise of 8.57%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 2.54%, registering a 13.33% increase over the previous month.
