The global food industry noticed a 3.2% drop in IT hiring activity in August 2022 over the previous month, led by Nestle’s 13.53% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food industry’s overall hiring activity declined 4.47% when compared with July 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.38% share of the global food industry’s hiring activity in August 2022, down 0.46% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of August 2022 were 5.57% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 9.54% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 34.62% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food hiring activity in August 2022, a 13.21% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 21.51% in August 2022, down 11.7% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 20.51% share in August 2022, a growth of 9.09% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 17.09% share in August 2022 and a drop of 17.24% over July 2022.
Top five food companies by recruitment activity in August 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 7.27% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food industry during August 2022 over July 2022.
Nestle posted 95 IT jobs in August 2022 and registered a drop of 33.1% over the previous month, followed by The J. R. Simplot with 73 jobs and a flat growth. Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 57 IT jobs and Charoen Pokphand Foods Public with 50 jobs, recorded a 39.36% decline and a 25% rise, respectively, while HelloFresh recorded a 35.29% drop with 44 job postings during August 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food IT hiring activity in August 2022 with a 49.86% share, which marked a 17.06% rise over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 25.64%, registering a 23.73% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 20.09% share and a 16.57% drop over July 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.28% and a month-on-month drop of 46.51%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.14%, registering a 60% decrease over the previous month.
