The global food industry noticed a 5.2% drop in IT hiring activity in May 2022 over the previous month, led by Nestle’s 17.77% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The food industry’s overall hiring activity increased 68.51% when compared with April 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 0.67% share of the global food industry’s hiring activity in May 2022, down 0.51% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of May 2022 were 4.11% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 5.64% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers drive food IT hiring activity
Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 38.54% emerged as the top IT occupation in the food hiring activity in May 2022, a 5.31% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 21.76% in May 2022, down 6.43% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 19.6% share in May 2022, a decline of 37.57% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 14.45% share in May 2022 and a drop of 16.35% over April 2022.
Top five food companies by recruitment activity in May 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 27.85% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global food industry during May 2022 over April 2022.
Nestle posted 107 IT jobs in May 2022 and registered a drop of 56.15% over the previous month, followed by Unternehmensgruppe Theo Muller S.e.c.s. with 87 jobs and a 222.22% growth. The J. R. Simplot with 32 IT jobs and Cherkizovo Group with 30 jobs, recorded a 55.56% decline and a 25% rise, respectively, while HelloFresh recorded a 3.57% rise with 29 job postings during May 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in food industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global food IT hiring activity in May 2022 with a 45.68% share, which marked a 24.24% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 27.08%, registering an 18.91% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 23.59% share and a 15.45% rise over April 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 3.16% and a month-on-month rise of 18.75%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.5%, registering an 85% decrease over the previous month.
