Canadian dairy Agropur has announced plans to shut its plant in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville as it reorganises its fluid milk processing.

Closure is scheduled for late May next year, the company revealed. At present, 67 permanent and 27 temporary employees work at the site.

"In order to remain competitive, Agropur must continuously review and optimise its processing activities. Considering the age and condition of the building and equipment at the Saint-Bruno plant, significant investments would have been necessary to keep it operational. In addition, the location of the plant in downtown Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville does not allow room for future expansion," the company said.

The plant's production will be moved to other Agropur facilities.
