Japanese food and pharmaceuticals giant Ajinomoto has reported an increase in profits for the year boosted by increases in its food business.

For the period ended 31 March, Ajinomoto said sales in its domestic food business were up 7.3% to JPY321.8bn (US$2.6bn). In its overseas food business, sales were up 11.8% to JPY326.7m.

For the group, net income was up 10.3% to JPY46.4bn

Operating income increased 20.6% to JPY74.5bn and sales were up 5.8% to JPY1,006.6bn.
