
Japanese food giant Ajinomoto has announced it is to enter the Indonesian bread market, with domestic sales scheduled to start in Augut 2016.
Ajinomoto, through its subsidiaries Ajinomoto SEA Regional HQ and Ajinomoto Bakery Co., will establish PT Ajinomoto Bakery Indonesia which will develop, manufacture and market frozen breads which, Ajinomoto said, is "not yet widespread in the growing Indonesian bread market and has not been produced in the country to date".
Products will mainly be sold in the Jakarta metropolitan area with "main purchasers" expected to be from the middle class.
ABI will aim for net sales of IDR193.5bn (US$14m) in fiscal 2020.
"Through this initiative, Ajinomoto will accelerate the expansion of its consumer foods business in Indonesia while aiming to make a greater contribution to the country’s well-being," the company said in a statement.
