The transaction, finalised on 17 April, sees Arvos buy Père Olive from France’s Labeyrie Fine Foods, which had owned the business since February 2016.

Père Olive will continue to partner with Labeyrie Fine Foods in Europe under existing commercial arrangements.

The acquisition allows Arvos, formerly AG Olives Group, to expand its portfolio beyond ambient products to include a range of chilled table olives, antipasti and dips.

“By combining ambient and chilled capabilities, the acquisition brings greater consistency, flexibility and depth for retailers,” Francisco Escalante, the CEO of Arvos, said in a statement.

Père Olive, established in 1993 by Eric Maes, will retain its existing brand name and team, with day-to-day operations remaining unchanged.

The company’s chilled production operations in Belgium will be integrated with Arvos’ sourcing and olive production network in Spain and Greece.

According to Arvos, the new ownership will offer the Belgian firm “greater scale, broader industrial capabilities and deeper category expertise across private label and branded Mediterranean products”.

The deal forms part of the launch of Arvos as an “integrated global olive company”.

The acquisition brings together California-based Bell-Carter Foods, AG Olives from Spain, Georgoudis from Greece, and now Père Olive, supplying customers in over 80 countries.

Arvos said the structure connects sourcing at origin with industrial processing and local market execution, offering retailers a more “coordinated” way to manage the category.

“Our goal is simple: to make the olive category easier to run and more reliable for our customers,” Escalante added.

Père Olive’s plant in Andenne, Belgium, will become Arvos’ European hub for chilled Mediterranean product development and innovation.

Hugues Chamberlan, the plant manager of the Andenne factory, said: “Joining Arvos gives us a stronger position for long-term growth while preserving the qualities that define Père Olive – quality, authenticity, agility and close customer relationships.”

Just Food has asked Arvos to confirm the revenues of the combined businesses and how branded sales compare to private label.
