Like Assisi, Forthglade manufactures natural pet food and treats but specialises in wet and dry foods for dogs.
The business, set up in 1971, is based in Okehampton, Devon, where it operates a single production plant. Forthglade supplies its namesake brand to major retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda, as well as independent pet stores. It also sells online via a direct-to-consumer platform and third-party providers.
David Cox, the CEO of Forthglade, said in a statement: “I am immensely proud of how we have developed the business, establishing the company as a trusted leader in premium, minimally processed pet food.
“None of this would have been possible without the dedication, passion and hard work of our exceptional team, as well as the support of IK throughout this journey. Partnering with Assisi provides the strategic support to accelerate our growth and we are all excited about the next stage for the business.”
Assisi was founded in 2020 and is based in Melton Mowbray, located in the East Midlands county of Nottinghamshire. The company provides branded and private-label pet foods to UK retailers. The business also sells online and to specialist UK pet stores.
Forthglade joins the Assisi portfolio that has been built up through M&A.
Two months ago, it acquired Sniffers Pet Care and its Naw brand of natural dog treats, building on a similar deal in 2025 for Yakers.
In 2023, it purchased the UK pet-food business Burns Pet Nutrition following the previous year’s deals for UK-based pet-treats manufacturer Pet Munchies and dog-snacks maker Maced in Poland.
The company also bought Hollings in 2020, a UK supplier of natural dog treats, and a year later purchased another UK business, Town and Country Petfoods, which makes cat and dog foods and snacks under the Hi-Life brand.
Chris Melander, the CEO of Assisi, said: “Forthglade is an outstanding fit for Assisi and we are excited to invest behind the brand and the business to unlock its next phase of growth.
“We have long admired Forthglade and the business David and his team have built. To create such a strong, multi-channel brand; trusted by pet owners across grocery, specialist retail and online, is a real achievement.”
