The New Jersey-based food importer and distributor Atalanta Corporation is teaming up with Scotland’s investment and trade promotion agency to promote Scottish cheese products in the US.

Atalanta said its product team has been working for more than a year with Scottish Development International “to develop strong relationships with a number of individual (dairy) producers in order to find the right products for the marketplace”.

Atalanta’s VP of cheese and speciality deli John Rodger said: “We are delighted to be associated with these Scottish dairies and believe that their unique products will complement our successful Mull of Kintyre brand of Scottish speciality cheese”.

In the first phase of the partnership, unveiled on Monday (27 June), Atalanta said it will feature products from Scottish two dairies – Connage Highland Farms and The Island Smokery – and will roll out several more “distinctive” speciality cheeses in the coming weeks.

Scottish Dairy spokesperson Roddy Wilde said: “The Scottish Dairy brand represents well known regional artisan brands and the launch with Atalanta is a major step forward in the promotion of Scottish dairy products in the US. Products are carefully selected according to strict criteria, made with 100% Scottish milk. They are supported by well-established partners, ensuring ready access for all customers to these superb variety of cheeses from Scotland.”
